Hips and Knees

Hips and Knees
31 year old fashion PR, lives with her husband Tom, a DJ, in West London. She is a size 10-12.

Operation:
Non-surgical Lipo-Dissolve injections on love handles and knees.

Practitioner:
Sally Gilbert-Wilson, Advanced Clinical Cosmetology

Cost:
£1,000 for four treatments

I work in fashion PR and, believe me, what you look like is important. I can spend up to £10,000 a year on clothes.

I'm surrounded by models, race from one fashion shoot to another and travel all over the world for catwalk shows twice a year.

I don't just wear designer labels - I like to mix expensive items from Gucci and Prada with High Street bargains and the odd quirky piece from Portobello Road I just want to look good all the time.

I had been hankering after short skirts and hipster trousers, but my love handles and fatty knees don't look good in either. Well cut clothes should sit beautifully on your body, but excess lumpy areas spoil the line.

Having had facial botox and lip enhancement with Sally Gilbert-Wilson, I trusted her suggestion to try Lipo-Dissolve injections to get rid of the excess fat. These contain Lecithin extract and dissolve fat in the area they are injected into.

It consists of four half-hour appointments over six weeks and is so painless that I could catch the bus home afterwards. All I had to do was take Arnica tablets before and after each injection to prevent bruising.

The injection seems to work on your bodys fat metabolism. I noticed an improvement after two injections, and I won't need a top-up for a year. Of course, the amount you need depends on how big an area you want to treat .

The results have been subtle enough to look natural, but effective enough to work instantly -without a long recuperation or scars. I certainly don't have to worry about my holiday swimwear for once. I now wear the short skirts I was craving. And knee-high boots fit so much better.

Lipo-Dissolve

I'm very fit but I wanted to be more confident in skirts so I decided to have Lipo-Dissolve, which is a fat dissolving procedure.

An enzyme which naturally occurs in the body is injected into the area concerned, such as bags beneath the eyes. It speeds up metabolism and removes and shapes the area.

"It was a lunchtime thing and I went back to work afterwards. It took three sessions and it wasn't painful, just itchy and hot. I'm thrilled with the results, which have given me more definition".

Fast Track Make-Up

You can streamline your beauty routine for two weeks in the sun by having semi-permanent make-up applied before you travel. According to cosmetic practitioner Samantha Wilson, the pigmentation process has come a long way.

Now you can have eyelash enhancement - tiny dots of colour are filled in between sparse lashes to make them look fuller, as well as lip and brow reshaping and outlining.

Treatments include follow-up sessions, to be taken within 12 weeks and effects last three to six years.

Male Order - Excerpts from An Armpit Job for Tim Moore

In the teenage years of antiseptic self-loathing, I would anoint not just the downy pits themselves with a thick stripe of my mum's Mum, but also the outside of T-shirt underarms.

After decades of coating my underarms with a daily blast of Sure Cotton Fresh, I finally troubled myself with the small print. Were these religious applications of aluminium chlorohydrate and - eek! - disteardimonium hectorite medically sustainable? And let's not forget that Solvent Abuse Can Kill Instantly. There had to be another answer.

So it is, after a conversation with Sally Wilson of the Advanced Cosmetology Centre, that I find myself playing out one of manhoods less plausible scenarios. While my wife, Birna, sits downstairs, watching Gladiator at imperial volume, there I am shaving my armpits.

'It's a very masculine cosmetic issue,' says Sally the following afternoon, welcoming me into the Marylebone Road clinic she runs with her daughter, Sam. The shirt is off, the disclaimer signed. I am about to have my armpits botoxed.

Sally is understandably reluctant to name the famous names who have attended her drying-out clinic. Jim Carrey patently isn't one: 'A very damp man,' says Sally. 'It's sad to see, to imagine the emotional distress.' Sally's clientele, usually men, are those cursed with pits of hell. 'Hyperhydrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating,' explains Sam, easing my topless form down onto a gurney. 'Men leave here saying it's the best money they ever spent.'

It's not just the pits' Sally adds, angling her creaseless face critically into my scarred, bald and lividly tinted underarms. 'Businessmen get their palms done, for a dry handshake. And at Oscars time, actresses have their insoles treated'.

Crucified before the mirror, I observe that my underarms are unblemished, arid and taut as plastic, a nauseating juxtaposition with the haggard man-flesh above and below. My armpits have sold their glands to the devil, been granted the elixir of hairless, odourless pre-pubescence.

Finally, undertaking an ordeal that sluices the torso in excreted saline, I go shopping in a jumper and heavy overcoat. So here I am in a quiet corner of Selfridges, bags piled up around my ankles, tearing off Crombie and crew neck and speculatively patting my T-shirted torso. My back is clammy as a farmhand's at harvest and there's a forest of damp dots leaching through the chest area. But in that Botoxed wasteland, nothing: not a whiff, not a single sequin of perspiration. A sensory void.
